Biography
US alternative rock band 7 Year Bitch formed in 1991 in Seattle, Washington, USA, and originally comprised Selene Vigil (guitar), Elizabeth Davis (bass), Valerie Agnew (drums) and Stefanie Sargent (guitar). Their rise to prominence was rapid; their debut single, 'Lorna', sold out of its initial pressing of 1,000 copies and captured ecstatic reviews in magazines from Seattle's Hype to the UK's Melody Maker . Shows in the north-west of America led to a Pearl Jam member asking them to take their place opening for the Red Hot Chili Peppers in February 1992. Confirmation of their ability arrived with an impressive appearance at that year's New Music Seminar. However, a month before the scheduled release of their debut album, guitarist Sargent died. The release was held in abeyance while the group considered whether or not to continue.
They eventually decided to do so, releasing a limited edition 10-inch picture disc before Sick 'Em followed in October 1992. Comprising all their compositions to date (which included a variety of compilation appearances), it was dedicated to the memory of Sargent. A replacement guitarist, Roisin Dunne, brought the band back to full strength in November. 1993 and 1994 were spent touring widely, alongside such acts as L7, Cypress Hill and Rage Against The Machine, before a second album arrived in May 1995. ¡Viva Zapata! again won favourable reviews from diverse sources (including the hard rock press), and preceded a move to a major label, Atlantic Records. Dunne left the band in July 1996 and was replaced by ex-Mudwimmin guitarist Lisa Faye.
